Course Description: 

Level Eight English is our programme’s most advanced level. The  course will focus on enhancing students’ accuracy in their use of English, concentrating primarily on more advanced vocabulary (through the study of affixes and Latin/Greek roots), grammar and reading comprehension. This course will devote a great deal of time to training students to acquire advanced reading skills through the study of authentic texts taken from newspapers and other written media. Students will also enhance their writing abilities through practical review of key concepts of how to write well in English, including the introduction of skills necessary for writing in formal academic English. 

The course will cover a number of different topics and utilize broadcast media, such as CNN and BBC, and movies to help enhance students’ understanding of English used in real life and in professional settings.   

Students who pass this course will be ready for further language training and will be able to express themselves verbally and in written form with confidence and a high degree of accuracy.

This is the Advanced Writing course for the FAO.

English Level 7: May 2008

Students will continue to develop their four skills in English : speaking, listening, writing and reading, with an emphasis on the acquisition of new vocabulary by understanding affixes.  A variety of materials will be presented to students and they will have ample opportunities to master communication skills for use at the United Nations.
English Level 6: May 2008
This course requires an enrolment key

In this course, students will continue to develop their four skills in English, but with an emphasis on developing student’s accuracy in speaking and writing. We will do a review of selected issues in English grammar and students will have ample opportunities to practice and apply what they learn in their work.

English Level 5: May 2008
This course requires an enrolment key
In this course, students will continue to develop their four skills in English : speaking, listening, writing and reading. There will be a focus on developing fluency in English. Students will learn more vocabulary words and improve also their pronunciation by focusing on intonation and proper production of sounds.
English Level 8: May 2008

Level Eight English is our programme’s most advanced level. The  course will focus on enhancing students’ accuracy in their use of English, concentrating primarily on more advanced vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension.

Level Eight English Course!

English Memo & Report Writing
This course requires an enrolment key

This course will help students improve their business correspondece skills!

The Report Writing course focuses on heping students improve their report writing skills and covers various types of reports UN staff members have to write.

English Level One
This is our most elementary course for those with no previous background or limited understanding in English. The course teaches students all the necessary basic skills they will need to help prepare them for futher studies in our English Language Programme and to help them understand and know how to use basic sentences, greetings and expressions with English speakers they might meet at the United Nations.

This course teaches students the English alphabet, numbers, time and focuses heavily on basic vocabulary for everyday life.
English Level Four
This course requires an enrolment key
This course will help students improve their communication skills, especially their spoken and written English. We will review all the major grammatical points that students at this lower-intermediate level often encounter and teach them the necessary skills to help them become more fluent speakers and users of English.
English Level Five
This course requires an enrolment key
This is an intermediate course and students are expected to already possess a good to excellent understanding of all of the four skills in English. The focus of this course will be to help students further develop and strengthen their skills and for them to gain a better control of their use of grammar, both in their spoken and written English.

English Level Eight
This course requires an enrolment key

Advanced English - students will improve on what they learned in the previous level. Emphasis will be on vocabulary building and perfecting students' understanding of English grammar.

Pern's English Course
This course requires an enrolment key
This is a private course for Ms. Pern. The course focuses on helping this student perfect her four skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading) and includes various activities and exercises to help her improve both her fluency and accuracy in English.
